Hey! It's been a while since I've written anything, so here goes a little something on week 3. Let's start where we left of, with the kayaking. For 20 $ I got to go kayaking in Victoria for 2 hours. The first hour really sucked because I realized that we were going to follow the group for the whole 2 hours. Since I was always in the front, I always had to stop to wait for the others. The other thing that went bad is that the scenery was horrible!! It was like an industrial park or something. It was also very windy and we were going against the wind. When we got near to the inner harbour, the guide told us we had to turn back because there was too much wind... When we got back to the docks, we actually kept going further on the other side. Now THAT was something! That's why I really enjoyed the second hour. Beautiful coast with trees and nice houses and wild animals. I even saw a seel that got out of the water really close to my kayak! I saw it a few times coming back up for air. It was so cute!!!!! I was really...not shocked or impressed... maybe surprised and a bit uneasy. You know, we see a lot of animals in zoo or parks or stuff, but when you'Re in the wild, you don't really know how to react. I'm glad I had an encounter with a seel and not a cougar. ;)
On monday it was the culture night where Spoon Master Steph did an awesome performance for the sugar shack. On tuesday and wednesday it was the workshops and this week I had Photo Rally. The first day we went downtown to take pictures of things that were written on our sheets. For exemple : Take a picture with someone wearing rubber boots, take a picture in Fan Tan Alley, take a picture with the big bear on Government street, etc. It's was pretty cool! The next day we did a poster with our pictures. Later in the day I bought an awesome t-shirt made of Bamboo!!! And then I went to Travel Cuts (Voyage Campus) for a school project but also to get idea on what to do when I'll be done with classes here. That night was also swimming night. It was even colder than the time before!!! My face was completely frozen. :S
On thursday we had a beach activity that was planned that got cancelled because of the weather.
I have to tell you that here, the temperature is pretty much always between 10 an 16 degrees and it's always cloudy and raining in the morning. It's freezing!!! Locals actually wear their winter clothes because this is winter for them. I heard that people in Quebec are sweating a lot lately... Well I'm not... But I'm cold!!!!
On friday we went to Fort Rodd Hill. It was... a fort, old army stuff and a lighthouse. It was ok, but it was outside and the weather again wasn't so great.
On Saturday there was a local event to explore on our own if we wanted to. It was called the Oak Bay Tea Party. It was near a beach and it was like a small fair with rides for kids and games to win plushed toys. It was alright but we mostly stayed on the beach.
On sunday was Whale watching!!! But I'll leave that for another time. I'll try to put up some pictures really really soon. I'll also try to take some pictures of the campus, or maybe or my room and the CST building (Continuing Studies), because the campus is HUGE. I haven't really seen mountains since I'm not in the Rockies. We sometimes see a small part of american mountains but they're usually hiding in the clouds.
See you soon! ^^
Stephanie
